At the October meeting of the MCBA Visual Journal Collective we watched the "Sketchnotes" DVD by Mike Rhode. (My review of the book by the same title is at this link.)
The video made for very interesting discussion with this group of journal keepers—some who draw regularly and representationally in their journal and others who work more abstractly and don't consider themselves sketchers. I added some of their points in amongst my other notes and sketches made in the dark while the video was on.
The next meeting is our annual supplies swap. We all bring useful things from our studios that we no longer use but which might have a healthy life with someone else, and swap. In an effort to clear out stuff here I've been putting things in a box for quite a few months in anticipation. I will just have to be very diligent about not coming home with replacement stuff! Come and join us on November 17, 2014, at 7 p.m. (At MCBA in Open Book in Minneapolis.) If you don't have anything to swap, come anyway and join in the fun. You might find something interesting to take home—and you can show us what you've been working on in your journal.
