Left: One of the fake bookcovers I've created as donations for the event. Some of the covers are archival digital prints mounted on acid-free cotton board and one is an actual watercolor sketch done on Claybord™ and incorporated into a fake cover. (I can't help myself, I just enjoy making these. For an MCBA event in 2012 I made other covers with Claybord™ illustrations and you can see one here. My favorite fake bookcover remains one I did just before IFJM 2011—it inspired my whole fake journal and fake experience for that year. And if you're reading my blog and don't know what International Fake Journal Month is you need to go to my other blog. [A real blog about fakeness—I already told you I can't help myself. I believe in layers.])
MCBA’s Unabashedly Bookish takes place Saturday, July 19, from 7 to 10 p.m.
The studios will be transformed into a tropical hideaway complete with grass huts! You’ll be able to enjoy pu pu platter delicacies, umbrella-adorned cocktails, and delectable wines, while grooving to live music by roots band The Dead Pigeons.
You’ll be able to mingle with other artists and art lovers and purchase book, paper, and print treasures donated by local and international artists. And you’ll have the chance to win big at the Bookish Bash Raffle, where each lucky number winner will take home an instant collection of book art, prints, and gifts.
It’s all in aid of MCBA’s myriad programs.
Tickets are on sale now: General Admission is $30; VIP is $130
(VIPs receive a commemorative letterpress print, free raffle tickets, early access to the Art Mart, and an exclusive cocktail reception from 6 to 7 p.m.)
You can purchase tickets online at mnbookarts.org/bash; by phone at 612-215-2520; or in person at the Shop at MCBA.
Come and join the fun!
But Wait There’s More: Donate Art To Help Raise Money
You can donate your bookish art items to be sold in the Art Mart at the event. This is a great institution with programs serving all ages and skill levels of artists in the book arts. Your donations will help fund programs that are producing the next generation of printers and book artists as well as aiding current practitioners!
Send altered books, prints, broadsides, artists' books, handmade paper, blank journals, stationery, cards, chapbooks, fine press editions, zines, sculptural works, photo books, offset editions, and more!
Send your donated art to:
Minnesota Center for Book Arts
1011 Washington Ave South, Suite 100
Minneapolis, MN 55415
Please include a slip with your name, address, phone number and email with your contribution. They hope to receive all donations by July 11th.
Get busy now and create some art to donate. Then plan to attend and have a great time.
