UPDATE: 2011-2012 Sketch Night has begun its second year See the Bell's Calendar of events for topics and presenters. (If the calendar link is broken please go directly to the Bell Museum home page and navigate from there.)
Continuing the program begun in October 2010, the Bell Museum will hold Sketch Night on the FIRST Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (From October 2011 until May 2012.)
For directions see the Bell Museum of Natural History on the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Campus.
While Sketch Night will still provide a social evening for the visual journal artist, accomplished illustrator, or casual sketcher to get together and sketch the Museum's unusual and unique holdings, this second year of the program will have some fun changes.
Each Sketch Night there will still be a set topic. In addition to the topic there will be an artist who specializes in that topic on hand to give an informal demonstration beginning at 7 p.m.
The demonstration will be optional. Continue sketching on your own or in groups, watch the demo, ask the scientists on hand questions—you can tailor your evening to suit your needs. Visitors may sketch any of the specimens in the Bell regardless of the evening's topic.
Check out the Bell Museum's Calendar of Events for specifics about an evening's topic or demonstration artist. All skill levels are welcome.
If you're a Bell member the event is free; if you aren't a member there is a $6.00 museum admission, but the event is free. (Note: the Museum raised its admission Sept. 1, 2011 to help fund salaries for student workers.)
If you have a Minneapolis library card you can ask a librarian for free passes to the Bell!
