Left: a mugshot sketch using the Faber-Castell Pitt Artist's Calligraphy Pen on a page in the in-studio journal, a 9 x 12 inch Fabriano Venezia. Click on the image to view an enlargement.
For now the Faces Project has wound down. I've been dealing with deadlines; I've been distracted by clouds; I long for cooler temperatures so that I can get over to the zoo and sketch the puffins.
Here's one more before we put the mugshots away. I hope you are away from your computer and busy sketching entries in your latest project.
And yes, my sketch of Goruloff looks nothing like the crazed and bloodied images of him on the internet. I had an unbruised and unbattered mugshot from which to work. The fact that his more squarish head became angular in my sketch doesn't bother me in the least. I really only wanted to focus on the hair and the ears. But you knew that already.
Just enjoy the process. For me there is almost nothing as fun as moving this calligraphy pen across the Venezia paper. It makes a physical squeek even with a fresh pen. It screams happiness to me. It is satisfying. I can refine and fuss later. Or I can just do another sketch.
