Above: Some fantasy people. A soft 2B test taking pencil (with a rectangular lead) and light washes of gouache that were left over on my palette. No, the above sketches are not from my 2012 Fake Journal. As I prepare this post to remind people the fun starts today I haven't even decided on the actual journal I'm going to use (I still have three days as of this writing).
But to take a break from all the thinking about my character, my topic, the paper, the media, I picked up a pencil and started fiddling. I didn't so much paint these as dab on paint, swipe it away, dab on more paint. It was fun, relaxing, and I came away with a bunch of ideas for other projects, and maybe an inkling for the fake journal too.
If you are wondering what IFJM (International Fake Journal Month) is I encourage you to check out the link. April is IFJM and so today the fun has started and will run for 30 delicious days. Think about busting out of your regular journal practice and jostling things up. You'll come back with insights and freshness.
Even if you don't participate this year, you can check out what other people are up to at the Official International Fake Journal Blog. As people get going I'll be posting links to their fake journals for 2012 in a list in the right hand colum of that blog. And of course, as the month progresses I'll post my own entries for my 2012 fake journal on that blog.
Life's so short, why live only one?
