Above: This is a spread in my handbound journal using Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Paper which is now available in sheets. (The journal is approx. 7 x 9-3/8 inches.) I used left over Schmincke gouache from my palette. I put out some fresh titanium white to make some high key blends. This paper doesn't mind if you throw light washes or heavy applications of gouache at it. (This sketch started as a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen sketch.) Click on the image to view an enlargement.
I think Amy Poehler is brilliant. Her show, Parks and Recreation, is one of the most hilarious shows currently on TV. The ensemble cast is brilliant—but I think my favorite character is probably Ron Swanson, played by Nick Offerman. (The link to Ron Swanson is a site where you can read some of the wonderful quotes from Ron, but you really have to see Offerman in action.)
Amy Poehler has even produced a book, well, it's written by Leslie Knope— Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America. I saw it in the bookstores at the end of last year and had to drag myself away—all sorts of little background details about the things that get mentioned on the TV show. I may just have to go back and get it. Of course Leslie would do this.
Why aren't you watching this show?
Why aren't you playing with gouache?
Those are just two things to think about today.

I love Parks & Rec! Lately, I've been watching on Hulu while riding my bike on the trainer. Speaking of the greatest town in America, you might like this: http://carticulatemaps.com/2012/01/the-real-location-of-pawnee-in/

Heather, I love the link. Thank you! Also I had meant to ask you what you were watching while riding inside. I'm getting a little stale on my race tape.

Okay, it wasn't gouache and tv, I listened to Rice's podcast with Wendy (I took my one and only binding class with Wendy) I did a color chart with my gouache, and played with my new ppbp. Now how is that for a splendid afternoon. Think tonite's sketch a puppy will be with gouache instead of the usual watercolor. Thanks for the push!
