Above: This is a spread in my handbound journal using Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Paper which is now available in sheets. (The journal is approx. 7 x 9-3/8 inches.) I used left over Schmincke gouache from my palette and the green band is rubber stamp ink that I spread on the page between some bits of masking tape. (This sketch started as a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen sketch; then I pulled the white paper rectangle away, colored the background, and stuck the white paper down permanently.) Names in my journaling notes at the left have been obscured (except for the names of the cockatiels) to protect the innocent. Click on the image to view an enlargement.
I've been playing around a lot with coquille paper again—I just love the way it feels to work with a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen on this surface. I had some precut rectangles of the coquille paper that I wanted to use up. What better way to do that then use them in the journal?
