On Monday night local artist Karen Wallach demonstrated the use of the Thermofax machine for making silkscreens (using toner photocopies) for printing on fabric (or paper!) at the Textile Center. Seventeen Collective members were on hand to learn the quick and straightforward technique for making screens. We then spent the evening practicing our printing skills on fabric and paper.
I will have more to say about the meeting, with examples of the great stuff everyone made, in Friday's post. I will also post details about the Thermofax screens (which you can have made at the Textile Center) in that post.
For now I just wanted to whet your appetite for this process by sharing this very quick video of artist Jean Shannon making her first test print with the process. She's such a great sport when I poke around with my camera. Jean went on to make T-shirts—but more on all this in Friday's post!
If the embedded video doesn't appear you can view Jean at work silkscreening at YouTube.
