Left: Independent Variables is up at MCBA, and it looks really cool. Click on the image to view an enlargement.
I love what Jeff Rathermel, artistic director at MCBA, did with the zine show that's up at MCBA right now. I don't know what date it is coming down, so just get over there right away! You can stand there and read the zines which hang from the wall on strings.
I was over there for a meeting and was surprised by the exhibit. I had published the call for zines here on this blog, but then it slipped my mind! Go see it!
Also, if you are in the Twin Cities today, don't forget that tonight is the third Monday of the month (and it isn't May or December—the two months we don't meet) so that means it's MCBA Visual Journal Collective from 7 to 9 p.m. (Check out yesterday's post about the topic.)
(Note: MCBA is closed on Mondays, except for the Collective and some classes, but you can still see the show because it is on the open space wall of MCBA, as you enter Open Book (the building which houses MCBA, Milkweed Editions, and the Loft Literary Center.)
You could come early and view the zines and stay to chat about journals!

I'd never give up our little farm up here in the middle of nowhere...but I always have to remind myself of that when you post about the wonderful events you're able to be see and be part of down there!
I'm so jealous! =)

Angela, surely you must get into town sometime. Plan around the third Monday of the month (but not May or December) and find a month when a lot of shows you are interested are in town and you can come in, see the art shows, have cake at Cafe Latte and stop in to see the journal collective! Sounds like a fun road trip!

Wish I could see this exhibit Roz--love the way all of the journals are just hanging around. Sooooooooo inviting to want to look at them. You could just find yourself with lots of people wanting to take up journaling as I am sure that they will offer lots of inspiration. Do you have one hanging there?

Donna, the exhibit is for zines, not journals. Our meeting last night (at the same place) however, was about journals and we had a really inspiring group of people show up and share their work (I'll post about it when I have time to collect my thoughts).
Zines are often as interesting and personal as reading journals, so people can enjoy reading them on that level. I find zines fascinating for a host of reasons and rarely walk by one, let alone a wall of them!! I didn't have a recent zine, however, so I didn't send anything in to this show. I believe you should show new work so I'm going to have to get busy and make some zines!
